On this page we will try to give you a short craps guide where we will give you an explanation of the craps table and the basic craps rules to get you started. Most of the rules and certainly the many different types of bets are best understood when playing the game and slowly learning which bet does what and how much each bet pays out. This short craps guide is only meant to get you started. You can find more extensive craps rules online at one of the many casinos that offer the game or one of the many sites that are devoted to craps.
The Craps Table
The first thing you obviously need to know when playing craps is off course the layout of the craps table. So we will start this short craps guide with an explanation about the table. Like most casino tables, the craps table is topped with green felt. It is a large table with high edges to prevent the dice from falling over the edge and it’s a big table to give the dice the room to roll and to be able to service as much people as possible, since usually a lot of people are surrounding the table. Allthough only one player rolls the dice, all other players around the table can place bets on the roll of the Roller.
The Mirrored Betting Diagram
When you look at the table, you will see a betting diagram printed on the green felt. The first thing that will attract your attention is the fact that most best in the betting diagram are found two times on the table, mirrored from each other. This has been done to allow people from the other side of the table to place their bets without having to reach to the other side of the table. So, placing your bets on the right side or the left side of the table has no effect on your bets. The bets that can be found twice on the table are the so-called Sequence bets. These bets remain on the table until the bet is lost or won. These bets are, according to the craps rules: pass/don’t pass, come/don’t come, field bets, place bets and the big 6/big 8 bets.
The Central Betting Diagram
Beside the mirrored diagram, there is another betting diagram at the center of the table. This diagram shows the proposition bets. These bets are bets that are, according to the craps rules, made for one single roll and are removed after the roll. So, unlike the Sequence bets, these bets will not stay on the table until they are won or lost; in fact they are won or lost with one roll of the dice. These bets are made less often, that is why they are only printed once as opposed to the Sequence bets.
